When a movie goes from complete sense to complete insanity, that has no relevance of importance to the actual story. It is normally for comic relief, and never metioned after, even though it's a majorly f***ed up event. This was first metioned in the Ferngully video from the Nostalgia Critic/Chick. alligator random
All dogs go to the heaven, the big lipped alligator scene... -.-' (Big Lipped Alligator Moment)
por Bowser Jr. Dude 04 de Fevereiro de 2009
First coined by The Nostalgia Chick in the "Ferngully" episode of The Nostalgia Critic, in which they did a duo review.

A Big Lipped Alligator Moment refers to "the big lipped alligator scene from All Dogs Go To Heaven. This is named after the random musical number sung by a big lipped alligator towards the end of the film; a scene that comes right-the-fuck out of nowhere, has little to no bearing whatsoever in the plot, is way over the top in terms of ridiculousness (even in the context of the movie), and after it happens, no one ever speaks of it again."

In short: It refers to any and all random musical scenes that have no merit in terms of plot, are very over the top and silly, and are oddly never explained or mentioned ever.

Such scenes include:
-The dancing fire gang from Labyrinth
-The pink elephants from Dumbo
-The creepy tunnel scene from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
-And the sexually undertoned blue Gila Monster (the type of lizard is debatable) song, "If I'm Gonna Eat Somebody (It Might as Well Be You)", from Ferngully
If you are watching a film, and a random musical scene plays, after which you are forced to drop your jaw and go "What the hell was that?", then you have just witnessed a Big Lipped Alligator Moment.

A random moment in a film that is obscure and utterly irrevalant towards the film's plot, serving no purpose and is never mentioned by characters after.
In 'All dogs go to heaven' a'big lipped alligator moment' has a random musical number
In 'Willy Wonka' The creep-ass boat ride scene with Wonka's 'poem'
The pink elephants in Dumbo

Made by Nostalgia Critic and Nostalgia Chick, in which a movie shows a scene that has no point and never spook about again in the movie, therefor, the scene was entirely pointless(It is named after the scene in "All Dogs Go To Heaven" in which an alligator randomly sings.)
Joe: Hey Tom, remember the scene in Willy Wonka about the tunnel

Tom: Yeah, it was a moajor Big Lipped Alligator moment

Joe:...........what??

Named for a scene from the animated film "All Dogs Go To Heaven" featuring an alligator singing an over the top musical number with no relation to the plot that is never mentioned again in the movie afterward, a big-lipped alligator moment is a moment of intentional intense randomness and absurdity.
my friend was talking about his classes and suddenly had a big-lipped alligator moment and talked about his banjo playing skills for 30 seconds.

A musical scene from a film that has little or no bearing to the plot, comes from pretty much out of nowhere, and after it's finished, no one ever speaks of it again.

This can also be used when you and your best friend do something completely random, decide that it makes no sense, and vow to never speak of it again.

Originally found in the Nostalgia Critic/Nostalgia Chick review of "FernGully 2," some of these moments are:
-The Pink Elephants from "Dumbo."
-The song at the very end of "All Dogs Go To Heaven."
-The tunnel scene from the Gene Wilder version of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."
Kate: So, how was the play last night?
Peter: It was okay. Herp Derp.
(Then the two just start derping for a while.)
Kate: Well, that was quite a Big Lipped Alligator Moment. Let us never speak of this randomness again.
Peter: Agreed.
